Microneedling Pen vs. Microneedling Roller What’s the difference?

Microneedling Pen vs. Microneedling Roller what’s the difference?

We’ve all heard of the term ‘micro needling’, indeed a lot of clinics and salons still provide microneedling for skin rejuvenation using traditional ‘derma roller’ devices. Technology has thankfully moved forward with the invention of the medical ‘ microneedling pen’, which is a much more advanced and effective method for skin rejuvenation.

Both Microneedling Pen and Microneedling Rollers are forms of microneedling used to stimulate the production of new collagen by needling the skin. Microneedling causes micro-injuries to the epidermis, which signals the body to produce collagen to remodel the damaged area, which in effect rejuvenates the skin making your skin look younger and fresher and effective treats an array of common skin concerns such as acne scarring, lines and wrinkles, uneven skin texture, stretch marks, hair thinning and more…

So, if both the microneedling pen and roller are both forms of microneedling then what makes them so different?

More precise:
Microneedling pens can easily treat those hard to reach areas such as around the eyes, nose and upper lip whereas it is more difficult to reach these areas with traditional rollers.

Customised treatment:
Needle depth can be adjusted with Microneedling Pen whereas the Microneedling Rollers can only reach a single depth. The benefit of adjusting needle depth allows us to cater to different areas of the face that require different penetration levels for best results.

This is extremely important when treating specific skin concerns such as acne scarring or delicate areas of the face such as the eye area.

Less epidermal damage resulting in minimal down time
The needles in Microneedling Pens penetrate the skin vertically whereas with Microneedling rollers the needles penetrate the skin at an angle causing more chance of ‘tears’ through the skin leading to more side effects and therefore longer recovery time.

Fast treatment with minimal discomfort
As Rejuvapen has a built in motorised system it is more precise and accurate on its depth of penetration and can penetrate the skin from up to 100 times per second with an adjustable speed whereas speed cannot be adjusted with Dermarollers as this is dependent on the handlers technique. Being able to adjust the speed minimises skin damage, pain and recovery time.

What is micro-needling and how does it work?
Micro-Needling skin therapy is a multi-function treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin.
These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, serum growth factors stimulate new collagen and elastin development. This treatment is most commonly used to combat acne and surgical scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, loose and non-elastic skin and stretch marks.
This micro-needling treatment is based on the natural rejuvenating power of the skin. Shortly after any injury to the human skin, old and damaged skin tissue dissolves and is replaced by new cells. The gentle, controlled vertical needling method used in the Dermapen treatment encourages this organic self-repair mechanism on a microcosmic scale.

Dermapen Treatment

If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, please consult your practitioner.

What can be Expected in the hours, days, and weeks following your Dermapen:
Topical Anesthetic will be applied for patient comfort.
Immediately after your Dermapen treatment, you will look as though you have a moderate to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This is normal and will subside after 1 to 2 hours and will normally recover within the same day or within 24 hours. You may see slight redness after 24 hours, but only in minimal areas or spots.
Your practioner will prescribe post-procedure skincare after the procedure to help soothe, calm and protect the skin. Continue to use for 3 days. Active skincare can be resumed again after Day 3.

After the Treatment here are some things that you can do to help the process of skin rejuvenation be most effective:
CLEAN – Use a soothing cleanser or face wash with tepid water to cleanse the face for the following 48 hours and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the treated area.
HEAL – Professional skincare is recommended post-treatment as the pharmaceutical grade properties are ideal to help heal the skin, but will also create a sterile skin, too. Resveratrol-based products can help soothe the skin and lessen irritation.
HYDRATE – Following your Dermapen treatment, your skin may feel drier than normal. HyaluronicAcid is an ideal ingredient to hydrate and restore the skin back to perfect balance.
STIMULATE – In the days following your Dermapen treatment, and as the skin starts to regenerate, collagen stimulating peptides are ideal to continue the stimulation.
MAKEUP – It is recommended that makeup should not be applied for 12 hours after the procedure. However, your practitioner may be able to supply you with specialized mineral makeup product that theyfeel would be suitable for use during this period. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not clean.
PROTECT – Immediately after the procedure, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with aSPF 30. A chemical-free sunscreen is highly recommended.
For at least 2 hours post treatment, do NOT use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol(Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours. No tanning beds.
Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environmentsare harmful, and may cause adverse reactions.
Your technician will advise you when to follow up for the most accurate results which are usually 4-6 weeks. Please remember 2-4 minimum treatments are recommended, but more treatments are usually necessary to achieve maximal rejuvenation. There is no guarantee for results.

What is Dermapen – The Dermapen Microneedling Pen is the World Leader

(MICRONEEDLING)
BEAUTIFUL, NATURAL RESULTS.

Truly beautiful skin is soft, supple, and glowing. Yet with sun damage, acne, wrinkles, fine lines, freckles, and sun spots, a luminous complexion can be difficult to achieve. A large body of research supports the use of an exciting technique to aid in getting great skin: Collagen Induction Therapy.

Collagen Induction Therapy, also called Dermapen Microneedling, or Microneedling, is a minimally invasive technique that boosts your skin’s production of collagen and elastin, two of the most important substances in maintaining plump, youthful, glowing skin.

A popular method known as micro-needling has always been used in the treatment of stubborn skin ailments that we deal with every day.
This method is also efficient in giving us healthy looking skin and keeping the skin generally healthy.
Micro needing can be done by a trained technician. You can even do it on your own but after thorough research.
The newest available tool on the market that can be used for this purpose is known as Dermapen.
Dermapen is a micro-needling device that can be handheld. It basically functions through puncturing the skin with the aid of series of small needles.
This stimulates collagen production in the skin. Collagen stimulation can result in a variety of benefits including the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.

What is Dermapen?
Dermapen is a motorized pen-like microneedling device used by a medical or skin-care professional to improve skin tone and texture. Microneedling with the Dermapen can improve fine lines and wrinkles, scars (especially acne scars), stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and large pores.

It’s used mostly on the face, but the Dermapen can treat skin anywhere on the body, including the neck, chest, stomach, and thighs.

Dermapen Claims and Features-What You Need To Know?
Dermapen has been created by a company known as Dermapen. This is a company that has been in existence since 1976.
Over the years, it has grown to maintain a business that is sustainable. It is therefore unique because it uses cutting-edge technologies.
Since Dermapen’s development in 2010, it has grown to be popular and has become among the highest ranked micro needling technologies in the market.
The company manufacturers claim that Dermapen works effectively when it comes to the reduction of scars, face wrinkles, and facial lines.

While puncturing the skin, this tool is claimed to initiate healing, therefore, replacing damaged skin with new skin.
It is also claimed to leave the skin youthful by producing collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin will cause the skin to tighten and also thicken.

Dermapen Ingredients – Are they Safe & Effective?
Dermapen has a series of needles that moves across the skin while puncturing it. As it punctures the skin, it facilitates the reproduction of natural collagen.
This tool also creates fine channels across the skin. These channels allow for the absorption of nutrients into the skin, therefore, stimulating better and faster results.
You will, therefore, have no problem with applying your potions and lotions into your skin because the skin has already been prepared to absorb them to work efficiently. This will give you a clearer and youthful looking skin.

Dermapen Review – How Does It Work?
Dermapen works in a unique way through a method of puncturing the skin. The Dermapen works through a spring-loaded automated function.
Through this mechanism, it moves up and down perpendicularly across the skin. It punctures the skin while moving perpendicularly while using eleven evenly-spaced microneedles.
The device is supposed to be moved across the face because it the facial skin we are dealing with.
The working mechanism of Dermapen causes the stimulation of healthy collagen. The tiny punctures that have been created also allow for the absorption of nutrients into the deeper layers of the skin making it function optimally.
The needle oscillations are also quite fast and this is advantageous because while it glides across the skin, it minimizes the chances of damaging the dermal layers of the skin.

What are the Advantages of Dermapen?
May stimulate natural collagen production in the skin.
Creates fine channels in the skin allowing for better absorption of active ingredients into the skin therefore making it look clearer and more youthful.
May eliminate facial lines, face wrinkles, and scars.
It is also effective in treating surgery and burns, stretch marks, alopecia among others.

What are the pros and cons of Dermapen?

Pros
Dermapen can be adjusted for your skin thickness and concerns.
The fine needles on the Dermapen create precise pinpricks, making them less likely to cause long-term texture damage than some other microneedling devices.
After microneedling with Dermapen, your skin can absorb serums and other skin-care products more effectively.

Cons
Although the Dermapen is considered safer than other microneedling devices, it can cause scarring if used improperly by an inexperienced provider.
While microneedling is considered safe for all skin types and tones, people with olive, brown, and dark skin are at a higher risk of pigmentation issues if damage is caused.
People with active acne, eczema, psoriasis, cold sores, or warts—or who are currently taking Accutane or blood thinners—should avoid any kind of microneedling, including the Dermapen.

How does Dermapen microneedling work?

Short, fine needles on the tip of the device puncture the epidermis and dermis, creating micro injuries that stimulate a natural wound-healing response. Over the coming weeks, this increases cell turnover and boosts elastin and collagen production so that your skin repairs and renews itself. This technique is also known as collagen induction therapy.

Because Dermapen results rely on your skin’s natural regeneration process, providers recommend a series of three to five treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, for best results. This allows time for the skin cells to turn over and for new collagen to be produced.

Microneedling involves using a mechanized device called a dermapen to make thousands of miniscule needle punctures in the outermost layers of the skin. By precisely controlling the depth, spacing, frequency, and pattern of these needle pricks, the dermapen stimulates your body to make more collagen in the areas where it needs it the most. Microneedling has been scientifically demonstrated to show improvement in fine lines, freckles and sun spots, scars, burns, pitted and non-pitted acne scars, stretch marks, and large pores.

How can you care for your skin after a Dermapen treatment?

Immediately afterward, you may have some swelling or redness. This should clear up within a few hours, but you’ll want to be careful with your skin for a few days. With needled microchannels open, your skin will be particularly vulnerable.

Here’s how you can really take care of your skin for the first few days after your treatment.

Avoid direct sun exposure. While it’s super-sensitive, your skin may be more prone to sun damage. Reach for a physical sunscreen with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide instead of a chemical one, which may seep into your skin.
Go without makeup for at least 24–48 hours. Anything you apply may penetrate your pores, and previously used brushes and applicators can introduce bacteria.
Keep your skin care simple. Active ingredients (like alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acids and retinoids) can cause irritation, so it’s best to stick to a gentle cleanser and hydrating moisturizer unless your provider recommends otherwise. To boost results, they may OK an antioxidant serum or a skin-care product with collagen-stimulating peptides. Your skin will more readily absorb anything you apply.
Cool it on the exercise. Working up a sweat can aggravate your skin, and you run the risk of stirring up infection-causing bacteria.

CAN MICRONEEDLING BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?
Microneedling can be combined with a liquid treatment on the skin surface– such as growth factors, vitamin C, or platelet rich plasma (PRP)– to further improve skin quality, evenness, and texture. This is highly effective because the skin absorbs more of these growth factors as a result of microneedling treatment. The so-called “vampire facelift” (shown on Bar Rafaeli and Kim Kardashian, above) is an example of this combination.

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM A MICRONEEDLING OR DERMAROLLER TREATMENT IN A SPA?

Spa & home needles are shorter and less effective.

In a spa or home-use setting, microneedling devices and dermal rollers have needles that are much shorter than the ones used by a plastic surgeon. A spa or home device will have short, fine needles that are 0.2 mm in depth and can be used two times a week or more. In contrast, medical microneedling performed by a qualified plastic surgeon uses long, fine needles with depths ranging from 2 to 7 mm, depending on your concern (in other words 10 to 35 times deeper than the spa model).

Spa & home needles can hurt your skin and cause scarring.

Microneedling must be done with a device that hits your skin surface at a 90 degree (perpendicular) angle, in order to minimize scraping, scratching, or other trauma that could cause scarring. Inexpensive spa devices often have poor quality needles that are slightly angled or bent and can thus hurt your skin. Similarly, circular devices like dermal rollers don’t hit the skin at a straight 90 degree angle and can be injurious for this reason as well.

WHY NOT JUST USE A LASER OR CHEMICAL PEEL?

Microneedling is preferable to laser and chemical peels in many patients because it is safe for use in all skin tones, all parts of the body (including stretch marks on the abdomen), and all times of life (including pregnancy and breastfeeding). In addition, the downtime with Microneedling is quite short, with transient redness usually lasting less than a day (as compared to one week or more with peels or laser).

Microneedling Collagen Induction Therapy is also a great technique for those who are concerned with their complexions but are relunctant to try Botox or fillers. Because it is mechanical and doesn’t involve any chemicals or neurotoxins, the technique is reassuring to many.

DOES IT HURT?

Although Microneedling sounds scary (thousands of needles going into your face!), it is actually quite painless. Dr. Devgan uses lidocaine numbing cream on your face to keep you completely comfortable, and you are wide awake during the procedure. The experience feels similar to a deep facial with a bit of extra vibration. At the end of the procedure, your face will be slightly red and tingly, as the growth factors, vitamin C, or platelet rich plasma absorb into your skin. By the next day, you will be able to return to work and play, with minimal downtime.

Improved skin appearance begins to occur almost immediately and continues for 4 to 6 weeks. For best results, Microneedling can be repeated as frequently as every 6 weeks, or as infrequently as 2-3 times a year, depending on your concerns.

IS IT EFFECTIVE?
The before and after photos of Microneedling speak for themselves. Although individual results and situations vary, this technique has been demonstrated to be effective in facial wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, burns, surgical scars, and stretch marks.

Dermapen vs. derma roller: What’s the difference?

A derma roller is a manual handheld device used to roll microneedles of fixed size over the skin, while the Dermapen has the ability to adjust needle depth (ranging from 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm) and rapidly punctures the skin vertically as the device moves across the treatment area.

An often understated aspect of this ‘nuts and bolts’ difference is that each Dermapen needle penetration is perpendicular to the skin surface with every oscillation, whereas a derma roller enters at one angle, changes its angle while in the skin surface, and exits at a different angle, which can create more of a tearing motion. Because of this, derma roller treatments carry a higher risk of scarring, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture.

The Dermapen’s small, 12-needle tip provides precision and allows different areas of the skin to be treated to different depths. The tips are also single-use, ensuring new, sterile needles for every treatment.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Dermapen?
Side effects are not supposed to be experienced after treatment from a general point of view. This treatment, however, reacts differently to different people and so some could experience facial redness.
This might last for 12-48 hours after treatment. Some users might also experience some level of discomfort in sensitive areas such as in the skin around the mouth.
